Book of Truth. Part 3. Economical Through Cost Reduction

In this article, we will look at the economic side of using HEINE blades.

Reason No. 20: Thanks to their outstanding durability, reusable HEINE blades are more cost-effective than disposable ones

Many studies show that using reusable laryngoscopes in anesthesia is significantly cheaper. And the numbers speak for themselves: disposable blades are about 7 times more expensive than reusable blades. (1) All you need to do is use simple basic arithmetic or try our cost calculator.

Life cycle cost calculation is an internationally recognized and scientifically validated standardized procurement approach when it comes to quantitatively assessing a product and/or process in terms of multiple influencing variables regarding environmental and healthcare costs. The calculation covers the entire life cycle of the product, from production to disposal.

At Yale University Hospital in the USA, the life cycle costs of various reusable laryngoscopes compared to disposable combinations were analyzed based on 60,000 intubations per year. The result was savings of up to USD 1.8 million or 88%. (1)

Reason No. 21: Thanks to their unique durability, reusable HEINE blades are more cost-effective than other manufacturers’ reusable blades

When compared to other blades that are half the price, HEINE blades pay for themselves in less than 3 years. (2)

Why? Because HEINE blades continue to perform flawlessly, while similar products from other manufacturers have already failed and needed replacement or repair. We conducted this analysis based on a representative sample of medical institutions.

Other reusable laryngoscopes often cannot withstand sterilization, become unusable, and need replacement, resulting in total costs after 5 years being 30% higher.

With HEINE Classic+ laryngoscopes, there are no replacement costs for defective products even after multiple autoclaving cycles.

In addition, our unique 10-year warranty applies, see also Reason No. 1.

Reason No. 22: Reduced operating costs thanks to fast disinfection with HEINE smoothSURFACE

This is how you save time and money. HEINE blades are disinfected as a whole, just as they are. There is no need to disassemble or reassemble them.

This saves time and reduces process costs:

  • No assembly errors at all.
  • No parts can get lost.
  • Less training effort.
  • Blades are ready for use again faster.

Reason No. 23: The share of reusable blades in sterilization costs is minimal

A widespread misconception is that laryngoscopes require significant disinfection costs. Quite the opposite. Out of every 100 euros a hospital spends on sterilizing surgical instruments, only 1 euro is spent on laryngoscopes. (1)

In other words: since reusable laryngoscope blades and handles are processed together with other instruments, hospitals will not save any sterilization costs by switching to disposable products.
