The model is equipped with an advanced Aspherical Optical System (AOS+) and high-quality LED{HQ} lighting, providing bright, clear, and high-contrast fundus images. The exclusive focusCONTROL feature allows a single motion to switch the focus from the retina to the anterior segment (cornea). Additionally, a built-in polarizing filter can be engaged or disengaged to reduce glare and enhance diagnostic precision.

The package includes the HEINE BETA ophthalmoscope with integrated head and handle, a HEINE E4-USBC power source, and a modern carrying case for storage and transport.

Clear, Glare-Free Imaging - AOS+ Optics and LED{HQ}

The AOS+ (Aspherical Optical System) minimizes disruptive reflections from the cornea and iris by optimally separating light and viewing paths.

• Special crescent-shaped illumination reduces glare halos on the iris, crucial when examining children or patients with small or un-dilated pupils.
• A U-shaped mirror in the design provides a wider retinal view without edge vignetting, showing more fundus detail at a glance.
• High-efficiency LED{HQ} illumination delivers even, bright light with natural color rendering for detailed visualization of all fundus structures.
• Diopter adjustment offers 74 precise steps (-36to +38 D), compensating for patient refractive errors, allowing sharp imaging even with significant ametropias.

With a wide focus range and high brightness, the BETA is ideal for red reflex testing (Brückner test) and for examining children, elderly, or immobile patients. Magnification is approximately 15x for a normal eye, facilitating detailed fundus observation even through small pupils (≥2 mm) without pharmacological dilation.

focusCONTROL: Switch to Anterior Segment

HEINE focusCONTROL allows one-motion focus adjustment between the posterior segment (retina) and the anterior segment (cornea).

• The device features an easy switch: F - Fundus, C - Cornea, enabling rapid cornea and anterior segment examination.
• focusCONTROL expands the ophthalmoscope’s utility: using standard apertures (e.g., slit), clinicians can perform quick cornea checks, detect epithelial defects, or assess edema.

This feature also aids in assessing iris and anterior lens capsule without a slit lamp, making it useful for general practitioners and emergency care providers.

Polarizing Filter and Multiple Apertures

The integrated rotatable polarizing filter can be activated as needed. It reduces surface reflections from the cornea for clearer fundus observation. Without polarization, natural reflections like the macular reflex and retinal arterial reflexes remain visible for vascular assessments.

HEINE BETA offers 7 different illumination apertures for various pupil sizes and diagnostic needs: small circle, pinhole, large circle, semicircle, slit, fixation star, and cobalt-blue aperture for fluorescein use. Apertures can be combined with the red-free and polarizing filters, providing flexible imaging options for all clinical situations.

“Smart” Brightness Control

BETA features an intelligent lighting control with a microprocessor-regulated wheel. Rapid adjustment gives immediate full-range brightness changes; slow rotation allows smooth fine-tuning. Brightness is continuously adjustable from 1% to 100%, ensuring optimal lighting for narrow pupils or light-sensitive patients.

The same wheel functions as a power switch, and the device remembers the last brightness setting. The built-in microprocessor ensures stable operation and protects the LED from overload.

Flexible Power Options and Fast Charging

The BETA ophthalmoscope uses a modern Li-ion battery with no memory effect, supporting fast charging at any time. An on-handle battery indicator shows when recharging is required. Standby electronics automatically cut power during inactivity to conserve battery life.

Two charging options are available: USB-C port with HEINE E4-USBC adapter or any quality USB-C cable, and wireless charging via HEINE X CS1 desk dock (single or dual station). Both options ensure safe and rapid battery charging.
