Exploding batteries of the video laryngoscope

Dear HEINE customers,

An alternative manufacturer of portable video laryngoscopes has announced a recall of its flagship product.

The reason for the recall was incidents in which disposable batteries (operating time 250 minutes) exploded, resulting in confirmed injuries to at least one user. The cells were discharged below the designed threshold, which led the battery to thermal stress.

We have received several inquiries on this matter and would like to respond by explaining the principle of energy management in HEINE visionPRO and how it helps protect our product from incidents like the ones described above.

visionPRO uses the latest lithium-ion cells, each of which undergoes rigorous quality control before installation. Thus, it is a high-tech component that has never caused problems in any product and has been used by HEINE for more than ten years.

Our approach provides protection from primary malfunctions with secondary backup safety mechanisms:

  • Overcurrent protection: safeguards against short circuits.
  • Overvoltage protection: prevents overcharging.
  • Undervoltage cutoff: prevents deep discharge.
  • Overtemperature cutoff: activates if the battery is at risk of overheating.

In addition, we comply with the latest standards IEC 62133-2:2017 and IEC 62133-2:2017/AMD1:2021, certified by an independent institution.

It should be noted that HEINE visionPRO is equipped with multiple protection systems that meet and exceed regulatory requirements to ensure maximum safety for both the user and the patient.

The video laryngoscope can be ordered through our website. Additionally, we also offer useful accessories for the instrument.

New carrying bag and protective case

The new and improved visionPRO carrying bag is now ready for order, as is the new protective case. The new visionPRO carrying bag now has more space for the charging cable and features an orange color. Same price, same article number. Available now.

Intubation videos with Dr. Jim DuCanto

The video series “How to Intubate” and “Tips and Tricks” has been enthusiastically received by the international airway management community, especially on LinkedIn and X (Twitter), as well as on Instagram.

Did you know there is an alternative approach to simplify intubation with a bougie? Watch how the preloaded bougie technique simplifies the intubation process thanks to a loop in the tracheal tube. This technique is especially useful for clinicians working alone. It helps perform the procedure more effectively.

Watch a video tip from Jim DuCanto, MD, anesthesiologist and leading expert in airway management and training (S.A.L.A.D. technique).
